Death Row prisoner once shocked the world with a massive 29,000-calorie last meal, the 'biggest ever' recorded."

Gary Carl Simmons Jr., a convicted murderer and rapist, was executed by lethal injection at the Mississippi State Penitentiary in June 2012. His crimes, committed in 1996, shocked the nation for their brutality and callousness.

Simmons, a grocery store butcher, lured 21-year-old Jeffrey Wolfe to Mississippi under the pretense of settling a drug debt estimated to be between $12,000 and $20,000. Wolfe, accompanied by his girlfriend, had driven from Houston to collect the money. However, upon arrival, Simmons and his accomplice, Timothy Milano, revealed they had no intention of paying.

An argument broke out, culminating in Milano fatally shooting Wolfe with a .22-caliber rifle. Wolfe’s girlfriend was hog-tied, locked in a footlocker, and later sexually assaulted by Simmons. Court records state that Simmons threatened her, claiming her life depended on how well she complied with his demands.

The crime grew even more horrific as Simmons used his meat carving knives to dismember Wolfe’s body in a bathtub. He then disposed of the remains in an alligator-infested bayou, an act that underscored the gruesome nature of his crimes.

The Arrest and Conviction

Simmons’ accomplice, Milano, was arrested alongside him after Wolfe’s girlfriend managed to escape. She broke free from the footlocker and sought help from a neighbor, who called the police. In August 1997, Simmons was convicted of kidnapping, rape, and capital murder. He was sentenced to death.

The 29,000-Calorie Final Meal

Before his execution, Simmons requested a staggering final meal that totaled approximately 29,000 calories. His order included:

A medium Super Supreme Deep Dish pizza with extra toppings.

A second pizza with three cheeses, olives, bell peppers, tomatoes, garlic, and Italian sausage.

10 packs of Parmesan cheese and 10 packs of ranch dressing.

A family-sized pack of Doritos, nacho cheese dip, and sliced jalapeños.

From McDonald’s: two large strawberry shakes, two 20-oz. cherry Cokes, a super-sized order of fries with extra ketchup and mayonnaise, and two pints of strawberry ice cream.

While it’s unclear if Simmons consumed the entire meal, the Mississippi Department of Corrections stated he ate about half and sampled most items except the fries.

Justice Served

Simmons spent nearly 20 years on death row before facing execution. His crimes left a lasting impact on the victim’s family and the community. His execution brought closure to a case remembered for its unimaginable brutality.
