Ricardo Godoi went into cardiac arrest as he prepared for a huge back tattoo
Ricardo Godoi was just 45 when he died from complications with his surgery
A social media influencer from Brazil, Ricardo Godoi,
tragically passed away during a procedure to get a large back tattoo. The
45-year-old was undergoing general anesthesia at a private hospital when he
suffered cardiac arrest.
Godoi, who had over 200,000 followers on Instagram, had
arranged for a tattoo studio to perform the extensive tattoo. Due to the size
and nature of the tattoo, the studio opted to use a private hospital equipped
for such procedures.
Just before the appointment, Godoi informed his followers
that he would be undergoing a "surgical procedure." Sadly, he passed
away around noon on the same day at the Dia Revitalite Hospital in Itapema,
Santa Catarina.
According to the tattoo studio, Godoi went into cardiac
arrest at the beginning of the sedation and intubation process, before the
tattooing even began. Despite efforts by medical staff, including a
cardiologist, he could not be revived.
The studio released a statement explaining that they had
hired a qualified anesthesiologist with experience in intubation, whose
credentials were approved by the hospital. They also stated that pre-procedure
blood tests showed no apparent risks and that Godoi had signed a consent form
acknowledging the procedure's risks.
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the
circumstances surrounding Godoi's death, looking into potential errors in the
administration of anesthesia or any medical negligence. Godoi's family has
stated that he was in good health and had avoided anabolic steroids for several
months prior to the procedure.
A statement posted on Godoi's social media page confirmed
the tragic news and expressed condolences to his family and friends.
Godoi was known for his social media presence and his
business importing and selling luxury sports cars. He is survived by his wife
and children.
Following his passing, tributes poured in from friends and
followers, remembering him as an "incredible guy," a "giant
brother," and an inspiration. This tragic event has raised questions about
the use of general anesthesia for cosmetic procedures and the importance of
thorough medical assessments.
